Last year more than £450,000 worth of compensation was paid to Scottish teachers for a wide array of workplace injuries, with the most common cause being slips, trips, and falls.
Concerns have been raised over possible health & safety legislation changes because of Britain exiting the European Union.
EIS General secretary Larry Flannagan said: “Many of the valuable workplace protections that we enjoy today are the result of EU legislation” adding that: “It is encouraging that the number of instances where teachers have been injured at work has decreased om the last year. This is testament to current Health & Safety regulations which must be retained following the UK’s departure from the European Union.”
