Best Practice - Test for Legionella – Don’t leave it to chance!
Testing for Legionella is not a legal requirement for domestic water use, provided the water control regime in place is being monitored and managed correctly. Testing is a legal requirement if you have a cooling tower, in which case sampling should be carried out every quarter.
Do you know if your control regime is working effectively?
Is your water system free from Legionella?
Our Nationwide service means we have you covered, from initial precautionary water testing to full site compliance testing of cooling towers and or complete water systems.
From Risk Assessments & Water Testing to Training we can work with you from end to end. We can tailor Legionella testing to your site requirements via our network of independent laboratories.
Legionella Testing Timescale
A Legionella sample generally takes between 10 and 12 days to receive the laboratory results. The approximate amount of days is due to using the culture method for Legionella identification allowing the organism to grow on the inoculated plate, this is the standard and most reliable method. Urgent testing results can be completed with 3 days.
When 10 days is too long to wait, we are now able to offer another UKAS accredited method of analysis where the result will be provided within 48 hours.
Legionella Monitoring & Remediation
Following the recommendations provided within a risk assessment, we can work with you to ensure you continue to meet the ongoing requirements of ACoP L8. To ensure you remain compliant, we provide legionella water treatment services such as system cleans & disinfections to ongoing monthly / quarterly / annual & bi-annual monitoring.
Cleans & System Disinfections.
The presence of contamination in a cold-water tank increases the likelihood that Legionella and other bacteria are present in a water system, it is therefore important that systems are kept clean.
We work to the highest standards to provide effective water treatment and disinfections of cold water services. We have highly experienced staff on hand to deliver both thermal and chemical disinfections of systems in need of maintenance. We can also offer refurbishments of existing metal tanks that may be in need of some TLC.
Ongoing Monitoring Services Water Treatment
Principal Hygiene can deal with all requirements in relation to ongoing monitoring for Legionella. We can provide system logbooks and look after all aspects of your system. We can help to establish the control programme and implement a monitoring regime. Our staff will also review your logbook records to ensure that you are compliant in all aspects of the ACoP L8.
